HONOLULU — A 79-year-old Oahu woman walking home from a YMCA died Thursday night after she was struck by a driver on Kailua Road.

HONOLULU — A 79-year-old Oahu woman walking home from a YMCA died Thursday night after she was struck by a driver on Kailua Road.

The Honolulu Star-Advertiser reports Alicia Moreno was taken in critical condition with multiple injuries to the Castle Medical Center but died at the hospital.

Honolulu Police Lt. Robert Towne says a Kailua-bound driver in the left lane had stopped to allow Moreno to cross and she was struck by an 18-year-old Kailua woman driving in the right lane.

Moreno was the second pedestrian killed Thursday while crossing major streets in crosswalks without traffic lights.

A 55-year-old Kalihi man whose name has not been released was struck and killed by a city bus in an early-morning crash while crossing North King Street near Gulick Avenue in Kalihi.
